The Atlanta Charity Clays (ACC) was established in 1991 as a fundraising alternative. The two sportsmen who created the event were charged with overseeing a new event on the social calendar. “Why not do something different”, they thought. Having been to one black tie event too many, the two quickly seized upon clay shooting as a great way to spend a day in the country, meet with friends who share a love of the outdoors and by the way, raise some money! The rest is history; the Atlanta Charity Clays tournament has become one of the premier events on the American shooting calendar.
The Atlanta Charity Clays family has lost a leader and a friend, Spike Wahlen.
The Co-Founder of Atlanta Charity Clays passed away on July 9th, 2022 following a battle with acute Myeloid Leukemia. It would be difficult to overstate the impact Spike has had on so many lives, organizations, and communities. His leadership and generosity were guiding principles in his life as he constantly championed initiatives to serve and support others. Spike’s gracious nature was evident to all that spent time with him on a clays course, a quail hunt, or in a boardroom. Like many of you, our board has the good fortune to know Spike not just for years but for decades; always admiring his perspective and disposition, regardless of the circumstances or location.
Cathy, our love and deepest sympathy go out to you. The ACC has always been a part of your family and your loss is felt by all of us.
On behalf of The Atlanta Charity Clays Board,
Chairman, Atlanta Charity Clays
